A very interesting situation with this particular snake. It was November 4th and I stumbled onto this snake in the morning while trying to photograph a muskrat. This guy was very sluggish as snakes are cold blooded and the weather was chilly, which gave me the opportunity to get very close without him being able to move away quickly. He didn't even try to bite!

That is a really good close-up of the garter snake. Mind you I still wouldn't get that close!

How close indeed...I can see your reflection in his eye!!
Was that the actual colour of the snake? Or is my monitor playing tricks?
It's great when you have such a cooperative subject. :)

The colours in a garter snake are yellow underside with a dark blue/purple on the back with a yellow stripe. Some snakes are considerable darker than others.
