I don’t have a Drobo but plan on getting one sometime after the first of the year. I have spent quite a bit of time comparing the Drobo to say a 1TB external drive and feel the Drobo is better suited for me. It appears to be a great design and gives you a lot of versatility.
The prices of a 1TB drive are really getting attractive and if they drop to say around $200 to $225 I will pick one up.
If you get one please post a review.

As much as I like this idea, I'm going to wait for a Firewire model (they've confirmed that a Firewire model is coming eventually). USB 2.0 is nice, but quite a bit slower... with the size of the hard drives these days, and the large file sizes that today's cameras put out, every bit of speed will be needed.
Still, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted... :D

Rudi, I came to the same conclusion that you have.
Network storage is becoming a more common entity and I'm sure we'll see better product offerings coming down the pike.
In the meantime, I'm using external drives attached to individual computers.
I've just upgrades my LAN with a 24 port gigabit switch.
I have 20 connections and a couple more to add...yes, when I recently remodeled my bathrooms I added ports there!
You never know when a port will be helpful!
