Hello all.

I got my D300 yesterday (naturally the darkest day of the year with rain).

For those who may be interested, I have taken some test shots at Allan Gardens ... in near darkness yesterday and in variable weather at Cranberry Marsh briefly to-day ... just the usual birds, nothing special.

8 frames per second is really neat, tracking and focus seem great. Low light performance is all I had hoped for. You can see some samples at the blog.

Some nice captures there, John! It's really good to see the high ISO game improving, it is one area where digital capture has some real and undisputed advantage over analogue capture (film), and the potential is even greater!

I nearly bought a D300 a couple of days ago, and I don't even have any Nikkor lenses! :) Then reason prevailed and I stopped myself. Still, if I manage to get a loaner, I wouldn't mind playing with one...

Thanks Rudi. With the fierce competition between Canon and Nikon as well as some capable challengers the technology is leaping ahead. We all gain. The D3 is in a class apart from some reports and my observations in a hands-on. But it's a lot more for my two years of experience with dSLRs!

Yup. It's great, having two giants of the imaging industry competing head to head! We all win because of close competition. Not to mention that it's good to have a choice if for some reason or another you feel that your chosen brand is letting you down - you can always vote with your dollars and go elsewhere.

Life is good! :)
