Just wondering if anyone else has had issues running CS3 with Vista. I have been experiencing problems which are getting progressively worse. When I run CS3 initially I have no problems, but after runnign for 15 mins or so it gets slower & slower and will eventually stall & stop responding. What makes it worse is if I am running Outlook, it will also stop responding (only when running CS3).
I have heard other complaints that CS3 is not as compatible with Vista as they make it out to be. Local magazine PC Authority recent release is indicating that many users are finding that Vista has all sorts of compatibility issues with various programs.
Would be interested to know if anyone else has had similar problems & if so have they been able to rectify the problem as Adobe are not that good in coming forward with a solution.

I've been running CS3 on my Vista machine since I got CS3 in May. No problems at all and no different then the CS3 running on my XP machine..
Rob, if you run it for extended periods, you may be overloading your cache hence slowing or stalling.. I find that closing CS3 and reopening it occasionally, will stop that from happening. I have yet to find an easier way to clear the cache without shutting the program down.
BTW this happens in both my XP and Vista machines..

I'm with Jeff, CS3 runs very fast on my new Vista box, much faster and stabler than it is on my old XP machine. Just something you might try as I've heard it can cause problems and is very resource hungry, turn off the Aero interface, it's basically just eye candy anyway.

Thanks Jeff, will give this a try to see if this makes a difference

Thanks Ron, Yes I found that speed was great. Will try turning off Aero & see what happens. I have also heard that there is a problem that is effecting some machines that Adobe know about but trying to find out the fix is proving to be a challenge. Hopefully I may find out something & advise accordingly

Well, first of all what is your system consist of component wise?
How much RAM does your system have?
I have been running CS3 on both my laptop 32bit vista and desktop 64bit vista.
Not had any issues with the setups on either system.

Hi Eric
AMD Athlon X2 4600
8800 GTX Video Card 768mg Ram
4 Gig DDR2 Ram
Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe Motherboard.
Beginning to wonder if Norton is the problem as have been hearing that many machines with Norton 360 running are having problems.

Well, I run Norton antivirus without problems.. 360 has a bunch of other crap it loads...
One suggestion is in PS go to prefernces and change your history states to 20 and cache level to 6... Also adjust your scratch disc availiablity to about 75% if you understand that give it a whirl?
Are you running Vista 32 or Vista 64???
Also, there is a update for CS3 check that out as well?
Other thing is make sure you have all the updates for Vista installed as well...
This should keep you busy for a bit.. let me know.. Might have some other ideas...
If those don't help uninstall 360 and see how that works...

Well, Finally have the machine back up & running. Discovered after much searching that Vista DOES have compatibility issues esp if running more than 2 gig of ram. It finally started stalling, locking up completely & then I re-installed it to find that I could not load CS3 or many other programs for that matter. Finally re-formatted hard drive & re-installed XP - Now running perfectly. Spoke to my computer guru this week who advised me that there are more issues out there than Microsoft lets on. Anyway, will continue with XP for now as my Nikon Neg Scanner still has no vista drivers & purrs well with XP. Also downloaded Windows Live One Care (V2) which is also running well & from all accounts picks up more viruses than Norton (So I'm told).
Anyway I am currently a "Happy Little (Big) Camper" - Now all I have to do is get my Mk111 back from Canon to get out after some birds.

Well, Rob hate to burst your bubble,
CS3 ad VISTA work very well together even with more than 2GB RAM. Some updates must be installed for Vista and I know many individuals who use it with 3-4GB RAM with zero issues.
Also if you go to the Nikon site there s a update for Nikon Coolscans to work with Vista....
You really need to check things out before making statments like Nikon does not have a update....:biggrin:

Eric, Believe me when I say that I checked out updates. Went to Nikon reps here in Aus who obviously gave me a "Bum Steer":arghh: Also went to the site they recommended & nothing there
Have still decided to stay with XP But! I know that my motherboard has issues with Vista. Yes, I know that I can download updates but then that means uninstalling everything & time being a premium at the moment I'll stay a Happy XP warrior for the present:biglaugh:

I run vista / CS3 with 2 GB ram. Runs faster than CS2 and has run flawlessly. Normal updates through "automatic update". Intel core dual 2.2Ghz, ASUS motherboard.

I have a very good friend who is a very successful IT professional, managing an international company's network around the globe (two guys - him here in Oz and another guy in the US keep an eye on the whole thing, with a team of people under them). He hates Vista with a passion, and from what he told me, he has good reason! While there are people that are lucky enough to run it without issues, Vista rates BELOW Windows ME as far as my friend is concerned. I have to admit, THAT surprised me... rolleyes;

Interesting comments. I have since found out that I have a problem with the motherboard. Has been sent back for testing to confirm but another guy I know purchased the same setup withing 2 weeks of mine & has had same trouble. He Has been running a new motherboard (Asus) with no issues. Just waiting for another board to come for me to confirm.
Rudi, interesting what you say!!!! Since going back to XP, CS3 appears to be more stable although as James says does not run as quick.
