Okay, y'all pushed so y'all got what ya deserved. My first shot with the 300 2.8 is not some exotic bird or wildlife critter.... it's our cat, Leo.
At least I got to pull the trigger on the lens.
Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll try for some birds.

Harvey,
Your kitty is beautiful and so is your pic!! Yes, I would say that this lens is sharp!!!
I spoke with my buddy today about a 300 f2.8 and I'll be returning there next week to drop my smoldering credit card on the counter. Your shot tells me I'm making a very good move. :D

Thanks, Robert. I've never heard a bad review on this lens which is why I didn't hesitate any longer than it took for me to talk my wife into getting it for me for Christmas. :D

Thanks, Ann. If one shot tells the entire story, then yes, it's sharp. Hopefully the weather will co-operate and I'll get to give it a better test drive tomorrow on some birds.
Stay tuned for late breaking news. :elephant:

Yes, Rudi. I am very, very happy to have this lens. The tough part will be looking at it most of the winter waiting to get out and use it next spriing.

Awwwww..... you're so sweet, Kevin. rolleyes; Kevin, when you pack your snowshoes and come for a visit in January or February, you can use it. cool;

Thanks, Ellen. Yes, Leo is a cutie. He's a bit of a klutz, but he's a sweet kitty. I've actually been thinking of keeping the 300 4 IS for those days I want to travel a little lighter. It fits into my bag with ease and weighs a lot less. The new lens needs a case or bag of it's own so I will be a bit more selective where I take it.

It seems to be, Jonathan. You should have one of these. rolleyes;

Excellent image Harv. Bet you're gonna bring that baby tomorrow (maybe by then you'll figure out how to attach a GSP on it, hint, hint).

Naw..... too heavy and large to tote around the 'Royal'. I'll probably just take my 20D (without the BG), my 24-105 and my 70-200 f/4. Makes for a nice compact, light carry around pack and should do the job. I may toss my flash in the bag as well.
