Hey folks..
Well I'm flying out to Calgary the morning of Mon Jan 14. Will be there until Thurs morn Jan 17. May have an evening or two free to look around a bit, but will likely be in meetings during the days. I'm flying light so will only have the 10D w/ 28-135 and maybe a flash.
I'll be staying at Hotel Arts http://www.hotelarts.ca/ for the duration of my visit.
I have never been to Calgary so I have NO clue where to go to see the sites. Any suggestions from our western friends?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH had a 4 paragrapher and my power went out :arghh:
Now what the heck did I write :confused_1::confused_1: I lived in Calgary for over 10 years, now live 3 hours north in a rival city :D
Calgary Tower- rotates, believe on 7th Ave, great night time photography opportunities, 11th ave is electric ave, good night life there. All walking on that street. Bow River, rated one of the best north american fly fishing rivers, just fabulous, but sucky this time of year. If you have half a day, preferably a whole day, Banff is just under an hour from Calgary strait west, a must see if you have never been. Best skiing around in Banff and area, Lake Louise and Sunshine are as good as you will find. Home of the best Cdn hockey team :D , think they dont play home until the 15th of that week. Calgary Stampede is largest event, but your off by 7 months. The Calgary zoo is excellent, animals are not in pens , very nicely done, google it.................... too bad you dont have more time to play, there is definitely enough to keep you busy!!! Too bad it wasnt a week earlier as Im down in Calgary next week for a couple of days in meetings rolleyes;

Hi Jeff,
In addition to the spots Keith mentioned...
The Olympic Oval (http://oval.sunergon.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx) (you just miss the Long track speed skating event)
Canada Olympic Park (http://www.canadaolympicpark.ca/events/index.asp)- I've walked around at the bottom of the hill before when my kids were taking snowboard lessons. There may be opportunites to take pics at the Bobsled / Skeleton competition which will be on.
You can capture the downtown skyline from several spots including Cresent Road NW or with the Saddledome and the Calgary Tower from Salisbury st SE.
Here's a website (http://www.viewcalgary.com/peter/pfrIndex.html)with some shots that may help you (I'm not affiliated in any way).
If you have more questions just PM me.
