This is when I wish I had theTamron 200-500mm !!!
Quick snap shot with a Promaster (Tamron) 18-200mm at 200mm on a Konica-Minolta Maxxum 7D, from my backyard, which is about 35 miles to the west of Cape Canaveral. With the trajectory, I'd guess that the shuttle is about 50 miles away from me at the time of the shot.
Hand held, no Anti-Shake. Full sized image cropped.

Thanks Keith :) You said in another post you wanted to see what that 6mp sony ccd does on a Minolta Maxxum 7D.
This was definitely a snapshot image. After watching the shuttle take off on tv, I ran out into the back yard really quick, and by then it was pretty high up in altitude.
Did very little post processing...some noise reduction and mild sharpening. I didn't expect anything spectacular since the distance is so far and the lens is not a high end lens by all means.

Pretty good snapshot I must say. Mark are you able to disengage the antishake via the camera?

Yes. There is a switch on the back of the camera that turns it on or off.

Keith, Kevin, it's all the same.... (I'd say my other saying but we're not allowed to swear ;) )
Cool shot. Especially considering the distance. I was driving on the 408 heading to the Wetlands and watched it take off from the highway. It was really cool, as it always is a thrill to watch.
