In case you were not aware, if you type in "PSJAN" in the search window on B&H's site it provides you a list of things on sale that no one else can see. There is quite a list....check it out.

I bought a 70-200 f2.8 IS USM for $1599.99 & a 24-70 F2.8L for $1075! Saved myself $150 between the two.

And to ensure I was an equal opportunity employer, I bought a 1D MKIIN, 85 f1.8, 50 f1.4L, 300 f2.8 USM & a 580EX from KEH.....those guys seem really cool.

My credit card hurts. :wideeyed:

Know anyone who wants to buy some really good used Nikon stuff? :)

It looks to me like your credit card will need major medical care. Congrats and welcome to Canonland. You are going to love that 1D MkIIn. Stock up on high capacity CF cards. That body can fill them fast.

The rest of what you bought isn't chopped liver either. I sleep with my 300 2.8 even though it makes a huge lump under my pillow.

Best of luck with it all.

You made me laugh. I swallowed hard on that 300...I bought a used one in EX+ condition. But once you have a long prime it's hard to let go and I too sleep with my 300 f2.8 Nikkor. It will positively break my heart to sell it.....but it will need to go soon.

The whole mess is supposed to be here Thursday afternoon.

Wow! When you do it you go all out!! Congrats on a fantastic new collection. I've bought from KEH before and have always been very pleased with their lenses and goods. I've been watching their 300/f2.8. I haven't seen any used 300/f2.8 w/IS so I'm assuming yours is the non-IS one. No worries, from what I've read the non-IS version is slightly sharper than the IS version.

Even though mine is coming on Wed, I'm still slightly envious. ;) Good luck selling your other goodies.

I typed PSJAN in the search and this is what came up:

"Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for your interest in purchasing one of our Show Specials. Please enter the item code as indicated on the show's specials flyer.

As always, thank you for shopping at B&H Photo & Video, the Professional's Source."

What else am I supposed to do?

Maybe me?! What do you have?

Nikon D200 (at Melville for a complete once over)
Nikon MBD200 Grip + two batteries
Nikkor 17-55 DX f2.8
Nikkor 50 f1.4 + extended hood and cap
Nikkor 70-200 F2.8 VR
Nikkor 300 f2.8 AF ED, Case, Strap and a 9/10 (-1 for a scratch on the name plate)
Nikon SB800 flash
Nikon SC-17 flash cord
Kenko extension tubes

All less than 13 months old (except the 300) with caps, boxes, cases and anything else they came with new. I have copies of receipts and the 5 year warranty cards on the lenses.

Sold my 35-70 f2.8 macro a minute ago.....

It all hits e-bay this week.

I am anxious to see some of your work with that camera....

Have fun this week and tell the folks at the Cafe I said hello by the way.

Why do they put IS on such big lenses? For another $750 I could have bought a new IS 300, but what's the point? I use a monopod anyway....am I missing something?

Well, Randy, I'm sure this will work out well for you. But I must say, I doubt your sanity, but that has nothing to do with cameras :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :p :p ;), heck I think I doubt ALL our sanity with this stuff rolleyes;

Saw your list, send me some prices, the 17-55 just might be of big interest.

I think the Cafe folks wouldn't mind you dropping by now and again, I have it on good authority that a couple of Canon folks show up now and again, as long as they only whisper .... ;)

I'll be sure to send your regards!

As to the IS question, Keith probably could give you a good answer. I haven't had first hand experience with it really. I know Keith swears by it, even on a tripod. I only shot briefly with his 600 and those times were not using a tripod.

I think if the tripod and head are locked down tight, you don't need IS on but otherwise, it still provides benefit. I've lived without IS this long I think I would think twice before spending the extra dough as well. ;)

Shhhhhhh..... I may just keep the D200 & the 50mm or a kit zoom just 'cause......

I'll PM you with a 17-55 price when I can bring my heart to actually list it....;(

Hi GBRandy,

With normal L lens or the older L lenses it is recommended to turn IS off whilst on tripod. However with the Super L lenses you can leave IS on. All I can say is with these big lenses we would still get minor shakes on trpods (on windy days) and the IS will help esp with the 600mm.

I used to have same opinion with you, why IS. Having both 300 f2.8 IS and the 600mm IS I can tell you the IS works pretty well. With the 300 I have handheld sports events with great results. I find even if I use monopod I still get camera movement. Maybe my technique is incoorect.

I have not used a 300mm without IS so I cannot comment on the difference.
