I'm thinking I might just end up with the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 for landscapes and indoor work, and the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye for wide angle sports (like skateboarding and such..) and possibly landscape as well.
How does this setup sound?
Thanks in advance!

Also, forgot to ask.. is the Sigma 24-70 compatible with my 1D?

Adrian,
Stay away from the Sigma 24-70. Too much sample variation. Get yourself the Tamron 28-75 Di (a great lens), and the Sigma 15mm Fisheye if you want to save money over the Canon version.

Well, I'm just not sure the 28 will be wide enough for my liking.
Whats wrong with the Sigma 24-70? I've heard great things, and a buddy of mine owns one. Seems to be a fairly decent lens.
Thanks for the suggestions as well.. I'll be looking forward to your response.
Cheers,
Adrian

It seems that there is great variation between samples of that lens! The Tamron is universally accepted as the best in that class (from third-party manufacturers). If you're not gonna buy Canon, you might as well buy the best available third-party solution! :)
I agree that 28mm is getting long, but it's the equivalent difference between a 31mm lens and a 36mm lens on full frame. Important? Sure! When you first asked about a wide angle for the 1D, the 17-40L was universally recommended. The fact is, if you don't need to go THAT wide, but still want some wide capability, a 24-70L would be your best bet! :)

Adrian, I can't comment on variances between copies of the Sigma. I can state that my copy is superb and I am very happy with it.

First off, let me say that my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 was EXCELLENT for landscapes. Very good lens all around. Can't comment on anyone else's copy, but it worked great on my 20D, 30D and 5D.
Second, 24mm isn't going to be wide enough on a crop camera for landscape.

If you want a good lens for a great price think about the Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, this lens gets fantastic reviews and retails for around 530-570 canadian. I picked one of these up and it lived up to the reviews, I'm very happy with it.
I would say the only negative is it's noisy since it does not use USM but IMHO the end results out weigh this minor irritation
