I need some help from some 1D MkII n owners. I bought one a few ago and when I was shooting some night soccer at high ISO I noticed there were patches of noise in some areas. I did some tests with no lens, just the body cap at high ISO and compared them to my 30D at the same settings. The 30d had no problems. The 1D MkIIn results looked similar to the shot below. Needless to say I took it back to the store to go back for warranty. The camera has now been back to Canon two times and I have been without my new baby for over 2 months. They are refusing to acknowledge that there is anything wrong with my camera. Canon claim their demo MkII n has the same results and it is acceptable. Below is a shot taken at ¼ sec at 3200ISO with the body cap on. No alterations have been made to this image other than converting it from raw to jpeg and resizing to 600x400. I am hoping some of you 1D MkIIn owners wouldn’t mind trying this and posting your results, so I know whether or not I am wasting time with this fight.

Peter, I have a new 1D MkIIn and have duplicated your test as described. Here are my results. Shot at ISO3200, 1/4 sec. with body cap in place.

As shot, resized to 600x400

As shot, brightness adjusted +100, resized to 600x400

The only way I could get anything to look like yours was to make a severe curves adjustment to the original

I have no idea if this helps you in any way, but there you have it.

Print this thread out and take it with you next time. Be firm but polite - this is not good enough, and Canon should fix it!

For some reason CS2 changed the image to this, it somehow auto adjusted the levels. when I open it in Capture One it is black with a reddish pink patch at the bottom, but my capture one is a expired demo so I cant convert it and open in photoshop.

CS2 does an auto-adjust that you can switch off before you convert the RAW file. It also does a "live" preview, so it should be apparent that this is what is happening...

Peter use CS2 and uncheck the boxes for the auto adjustments and see what happens.... I am wondering if these results are not the camera at all.

There is definetly something wrong with his camera. We shot side by side at a soccer game and his pictures came out with a lot of noise. I was shooting with a 20D.

Thanks Stewart. It was just a thought as the explaination in Peter's 2nd post was a little unclear to me. So both the JPEGs and RAWs show the high noise?

That is really unfortunate, hope they get it fixed for you Peter... (couldn't see the photo you posted)

That worked perfect, thank you. Unfortunatly when I resize it the noise dosnt seem as bad, so i did a 100% crop from the top left and a 100% from the bottom right.
Most of the staff and management at the store I got it from have seen the results as well as a digital tech that does not work for Canon and all say it needs to be fixed. Many side by side tests done with other models have been done in the store too. Canon seems to be the only ones who need convincing.
