I've been trying to figure out how to save an image with a transparent background. My plan is to use this image on a web page so the image sits on top of a black background and only that which is not part of the image background (which is transparent) shows. The problem is every time I try to save the image in various formats, I end up with a solid white background. Is there a way to do this? I am using Photoshop CS2. Really appreciate any help on this.
Thank you.
Note: The magic eraser works great to eliminate all the white pixels, which is the background in the image I'm working with and give me the transparent background.

What format are you saving the image at Rich. Sometimes it is just easier to save your image with the exact same color as your background. You may have to save as a GIF.

Rich sometimes the save process does not support the transparent background. Try selecting your images (not the BG part) copy and then paste it into your web utility page. When you save the webpage it should save it as a separate graphic..

I believe a transparency has to be saved as a GIF.

Thank you for the ideas Jeff. I am using Shutterbug to do my web work and it requires me to drag a file into the page. I tried the copy and paste with no luck. The one format I have not tried is the GIF. I will see if that works. I think it can be done as the template I am using has just such an image. When I open that image in PS, it has the transparent bacground. It is a PNG but that did not work either when I saved as a PNG. Lets hope the GIF does.

GIF format is the only one I've been able to use where the background remains transparent.

That was it. If saved as a GIF, I have the transparent background. It is great to learn something every day. Did not even think of saving as a GIF.
Thanks,
Rich
