Finally had a chance to try the 85 f1.8 at some indoor sports with poor lighting by attending my neices under 14 tournament on the weekend.

I had picked up the lens to use for my daughters gymnastics, havent had a chance to shoot that yet though. All in all, I was fairly happy with results. Heres a few select shots where the girls arent easliy recogniseable.

All shot with the 30D and 85 f1.8, ISO 1600. Shutter speeds ranged from 1/300th to 1/500th and AVs from 1.8 to 2.2. PP was simple and basic as I did this as a favor and had a couple hundred shots togo through for them. A small amount of Neat Image was applied to some ranging from 10% to 25%.

Cool shots....having the ball in the frame would make them cooler.

Good series John. If it was poor light you certainly got the best out of it. Look at the tremendous height that girl got (2) going up for the ball. Good action shot.

Thanks Andy. I got alot of shots, Im just not totally comfortable with other peoples under age daughters and the net. So out of (searches for words...respect :) ) I tried to be circumspect and limit facial shots....which in turn limited what shots to show :)
lol

Thanks Joe. It was challenging to say the least. All kinds of intereference, poor lighting timing etc. I had a blast trying though. As for the girls I have to admit I was impressed. Thats an under 14 girls team in Durham and the game play was from a girls 15+ tournament. So they were "playing up" a level......and they won it to boot. :) Very good team to say the least with some very good athletes

As for "that" girl. I will say she comes from good genes...Her fathers a known professional athlete :) and yes, she has remarkable leaping ability and hang time.
