Good, sturdy tripod & head with a lens plate for my 400 f/5.6?
There are just so many to choose from that its almost overwhelming as far as which one to pick. Now, I don't want to go out and spend a lot of money on this, so price is a factor. I'd say maybe $300, if its even possible? I'm not to sure, but if you all could possible just show me some options, I would be forever thankful!!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Adrian

For around $300, I'd check the Feisol carbon fibre tripods. They sometimes run specials that include the ballhead.
If you want a Gimbal style head for the least amount of money, check the Manfrotto/Bogen 3421. It's about $175. It'll handle up to a Sigma 300-800.
As for other tripods, I'm not sure how the Benro or Giottos or Bogen/Manfrottos are pricewise. I'm sure they're less expensive than the Gitzos which typically are more than $300.
You might want to watch FredMiranda's FS forum as there are sometimes tripods and ballheads for sale there. I bought my first ones off of ebay for about $25 each. They worked well for about a year and a half but my tripod has fallen apart. Ballhead is still fine though. :)

Adrian I have been using a manfrotto 055 which I have had for 25 yrs. It has served me very well over the years. Well built and comfortable to use. It is in your price range too. My ball head is an arca swiss and a bit pricey. I'm sure that manfrotto has a variety of heads available. You will probably get steered in the right direction from others on the forum.
