Nice shot of Ron, Jeff! How do your cameras do in such cold weather?

That's a good shot of him. Was it as cold for you guys as it was for us today?

Thanks everyone...
It was around -12 C and sunny so it wasn't too bad today. Suppose to go above zero tomorrow..
No problems with cameras today Lisa but on colder days the batteries in some don't last as long..

Thanks Jeff......I've often wondered about battery life in the cold. Doesn't get as cold here as by you, but I have always been leery of taking a camera out for any length of time in below freezing temps.

No worries Lisa. We regularly shoot in below freezing temps... What else can we do?
The 20/30/5D series cameras work quite well in the cold. I have noticed that having both batteries in the grip seems to outlast using just one and swapping when it gets old. Both Ron and myself noticed about 30mins was max @ -23C(-10F)/-35C(-30F) windchill before freeze-up. The batteries quickly came back to life with some warmth. I've gotten 2+hours @ -18C(0F).
Jeff, using the 1D series camera can get much better life from his batteries, and I can only assume this is because the 1D series uses NiMH (Nickle Metal Hydride) batteries with a capacity of 1650mah @ 12volts, as opposed to the 20/30/5D series using Li Ion (Lithium Ion) with a capacity of 1320mah @ 7.4volts. It speaks for itself as the latter has less capacity and voltage and is inherently more susceptible to cold weather freeze-up.
As for lens and camera moisture/fogging issues, I personally haven't had a problem as of yet, and I've been out in some nasty weather. Just use discretion... No fast warm-ups in humid conditions.

My two bits,
Cheers,
Tom
