Voting is now officially open, please feel free to review ALL submissions in our February gallery. Voting will officially end on Monday March 5th at 11:00pm Mtn standard time. Voting is open to ALL Pixel Shooter members whether you submitted or not.

You are allowed a total of 5 votes in the gallery, you may only vote once for any one submission, we would ask that you dont vote for your own work
and please feel free to make comments under the submission. When you highlight the thumbnail , the picture opens below, if you look to the right of the picture, there is a marker called "rate file" , this is where you rate the photo 1-5 stars. Each vote will represent a ranking of their preference and will carry a value of 1 to 5 points. The picture with the highest points at the end of the challenge will win top honors for the month of February.

5 star rating -1st place
4 star rating- 2nd place
3 star rating- 3rd place
2 star rating- 4th place
1 star rating- 5th place

When reviewing all these wonderful photographs, the best viewing is clicking on the thumbnail and it will provide you a larger picture below, for even a better resolution picture, please click it again and it will open in a larger window giving you much added detail.

If anyone does not feel comfortable voting publicly, please feel free to email me at jkrankin@telusplanet.net and I will be happy to post your votes confidentially.

Thank you everyone for your fantastic submissions once again, the only bad news here is it wont get easier for voting!

Okay, I guess I'll start off the new voting thread. Just like last month, this was not an easy pick. My selections were based on images that I thought took some extra effort to obtain and included the necessary qualities such as composition, exposure and an overall pleasant viewing experience. I would like to have cast a vote for images from everyone but as you all know, we are limited to 5, as well as having to rank them. Congrats to all who entered. There were a great many wonderful shots entered.

1. #24 (5 stars)
2. #43 (4 stars)
3. #67 (3 stars)
4. #65 (2 stars)
5. #59 (1 star)

First I would like to congratulate all the members who took the time to post their images in the gallery. This was an extremely difficult exercise for me. To narrow these down to five was almost impossible, then to reduce them numerically was really impossible. I did the only democratic thing I could think of. When I had my five choices I put them all in a hat and drew them out. Sorry but all five were worthy of the 5 star rating and I could not in all conscience select one over the other. Hence the lottery.

#25- 5 star
#24- 4 star
#73- 3 star
#14- 2 star
#55- 1 star

Though I didn't actually participate this month in submitting photos (no time for shooting), I did want to be a part of the voting process. I find the idea of a monthly challenge, with a view to publishing a calendar, a terrific idea. It's also a great way of keeping the front page fresh and exciting for visitors and members alike.

Once again it was very difficult to cast a vote for these photos. So many were excellent, however, I did disqualify some because they didn't meet the conditions set by the administrators of the site. Several exceeded the size limit of 850 pixels on the long side, and others, though not stipulated, were vertical and therefore unsuitable for a calendar format, IMO.

This may seem harsh (not my intent), but past experience has taught me that adherence to contest criteria is of the utmost importance. It may seem less so in an informal gathering, such as we have on PS, but elsewhere you'll soon learn that judges look for guidelines to be upheld.

So, after reviewing the photos, time and again, here are my votes for the the top five images in the month of February:

1. #28 {5 stars}
2. #54 {4 stars}
3. #56 {3 stars}
4. #25 {2 stars}
5. #42 {1 star}

Congratulations to those that win and to all those who put forth a very good effort. What a great calendar we'll have at year's end to share with family and friends!! :notworthy: :cheer: :notworthy:

A lot of great photos that I very much enjoyed perusing but I am going to refrain from voting. It's difficult even impossible to compare such a wide range of subject matter, do I vote for the best bird picture of which there were many, or is the best landscape better than the best owl? Perhaps a documentary photo is best? Or a still life?

I'm wondering if having a monthly theme would make the contest more focused and managable. Just my 3 cents Cdn :)
