Gerald posted this in the "Ongoing Bargains" thread in the For Sale Forum last night. Thanks for listing the details though. Great prices.

I've bought a 8gb ExtremeIII a few months ago very cheap which turned out to be a fake... it's really hard to tell genuine card from fake untill you test it. How can one be sure he buys a REAL card?

I think most fake CF cards are sold over Ebay from Hong Kong or China. If you stick with a well known, reputable retailer, you should be safe enough.

Well, I know many people who have dealt with this company for both CF cards and storage devices.. They are very reputable....
Also, I heard that Sandisk was having a price cut on their cards... Cannot remember where I read it though...

I understand and I don't intend to question the reputation of the reputable stores.
Just the price is so low that makes me wonder why... B&H lists 16gb for about$500, but not $200, why such a difference?

OMG! That's fast! I swear I checked them today and the price was above $500! Sometimes BH and Adorama and the other larger photo places are slower at updating their prices...
I think this price drop is due to the new Extreme IV cards coming out and this new type of flash memory they were developing...

Some good prices on the Extreme IIIs...but what about those RiData cards??? Anyone have any long term use with these. Those are about half the price of the Sandisk Ex. IIIs and speed is 150X. Used one for a day or two, before and no sign of problems. I'm tempted to get a few of their 2/4 gigs for $24.99 / $46.99. Might even have to look at their 8gig card if I get that 1D MKIII *-P

G'day! :D
All I used for the last five or more years have been Ridata cards. NEVER had a problem with them! All mine are under lifetime warranty, after registering on the company website.
I never even contemplated buying another brand, until I got the 4GB Sandisk Ultra II cards at less than half price some weeks back. (I only bought Sandisk because they were the cheapest known brand that I could get, and a brand that I was comfortable paying for). So far, I'm happy with those too, but my Ridata experiences are over several years, and several tens of thousands of images taken, never even a hiccup!
If I didn't have more cards than I need at the moment, I would be very tempted to get some 8GB Ridata 150x CF cards... but I figure they will be even cheaper when I actually need them! :D

Thanks for your input, Rudi. Those prices are hard to beat for the amount of storage space and speed. I probably don't need cards, either....but it's always nice to have extra ammo in the machine gun. *-)

There were quite a few sales locally this week, like at Circuitcity and Staples. They often have 2 gig SanDisk Ultra for $38, might be able to check that online too. Some you can purchase them online and then designate what store, and pick it up there + no shipping fee.

Canadians might want to check out Costco which has 4gig and 2 gig Ultra IIs for $99.99 and 59.99 Cdn respectively...

BTW, I wanted to add that I have purchased several of my Ridata cards from MyDigitalDiscount.com in the past, and they are most definitely a reputable company!
