Windows XP needs to be activated and you can't activate a copy on more than one computer. If you bought some hardware like a hard drive or memory you could be entitled to purchase an OEM version of Windows XP usually for around $150.
Personally I'd grit my teeth and move on to Vista and get it worked out if I were buying a new computer right now, we're all gonna have to sooner or later :). I also thing a lot of the Vista scare is hyperbole, sure new OSs have teething problems but I remember the same hype over Win XP yet now I doubt anybody would want to return to Win 98 :).

thanks Ron,
Iam going to be remote for 6 months(no not prison)with this laptop and the problems with vista are spooking me alittle,if i have computer problems were iam going iam in trouble.maybe i should just stick to my p-2000s. I dont like judging a pic for sharpness on a p-2000,they seem to be artificially sharp.other than that they have been pretty good.

If all you want it for is to review photos you might look into a used laptop, should find lots of them on EBay.

Dell in the small business section offers you the choice of XP or Vista, As for Vista I have been running ot for a long time and it is pretty good but there are some drivers missing yet and some applications have not been updated yet - and that is normal all those things will fix themselves in time.
As for which one, ask yourself, are your applications working well under Vista? If so you can go with it, if not I would wait. (you can ask me and others what works and what doesnt.)

I just picked up a Toshiba Satellite laptop at Staples (Business Depot) that had XP loaded. Believe they still have them in stock.
cheers,

I don't recommend Vista until the first service pack comes out.
