Sorry for being an alarmist, but my Canon User Manual (Soft-Guide) has a troubleshooting section which states that if there aree problems with banding or the print head scratching the paper, then this is an indication that you are using the wrong paper: Canon says for my printer I-9900 should be using 105 gsm or 28 lb. I cheked with Henrys (local photo and camera shop) and they had no such animal. Everything they had was over 200 gsm or 50 lb. Maybe I am starting to lose my marbles..(which is very possible!!)

They were not even sure where to send me to get this micro-thin paper. Most third party paper suppliers provide heavy stock paper, which has a lot of problems making it through the Canon printer I have.

Can anyone tell me what weight and stock they are using? Have I overlooked something or mis-interpreted something? The troubleshooting guide is very matter-of-fact in saying that using anything else is not only not recommended but will damagae the print head and the head will need to be replaced.

If I could hear from anyone on this, it would be appreciated. Have you heard of such thin paper stock being the only thing a printer will accept?

Thanks

Ashley

Canon and other makers change this up all the time, if your using Canon paper dont worry about it, spend more time printing ;) I use Canon Paper Pro and Canon Paper Plus Glossy, both print great on my i9900. Ilford papers work nicely too on this printer

I'm using exactly what Keith is using. Weight ranges from 65 to 69 lbs. It all works fine in my printer.

As per my PM Ashley... Ilford paper I use is 290 GSM.. I have yet to have a problem with any paper...

I forgot to mention a have also printed hundreds of greeting cards on Avery card stock. Weight and thickness is not marked on the box, but its at least twice as heavy as regular photo paper...

Thanks guys...I had a long talk with Canon and determined the following:

1- If you get any banding or scratching, you need to use the "Prevent Abrasion" selection setting
2- Best option is to use Canon Pro Paper
3- Any paper that is the least bit curled due to humidity will create problems feeding through.
4- The 105gsm, 28 lb rule applies to standard paper and not photo paper

Thanks for you response on this one...

Ashley
