Hi everyone,

I'm trying to wrap my brain around the differences between the Nikon D40X and D80...there seem to be more features on the D80, but the D40x has more lens compatibility...other then that, they seem pretty much the same...can anyone confirm my research?

Thanks!

I don't really know much about these two. But here is a link that might help!

Cliff is correct. The D80 is slightly larger. It has a LCD panel on top the D40X doesn't. There are a few other extras the D80 has. The plus on the D40X is it's equal resolution and slightly cleaner the the D80. It's $180 US less.

So....

I attended my first photography expo last weekend...MAN, what I would've given to be a few thousand $$$ richer...

Anywho, I think I amused the guys from Nikon, because I was at their booth for about 2 hours playing with both the D40X and the D80...after all that, I STILL can't decide which one I want...

The D40X seems to be easier to handle and less intimidating, but the D80 seems to have more features...some of which I probably won't use for a while to come, being as new as I am to all this...would it be worth the extra $$$ to get the D80 right away, or should I go with what "feels" better (Rudi, I see you thinking, no jokes please...heehee)...I don't have any lenses yet, so the AF-S thing won't affect me...

This decision has taken me months already...I've pulled out more hair than I'd like to think about...

Josée, my advice is buy the one that you can grow into and will suffice for a few years down the road. As long as the price difference is manageable. There's nothing worse than buying something only to realize down the road that you may not have made the best choice. I'd rather have features that I don't currently use but hope to use when I'm ready than the alternative.

My 2 cents.

I think that Kevin gives you some very good advice here..and I think in the long run the better camera from this perspective would be the D80. The increased lens compatibility as far as autofocus goes will make expanding your system economically easier in the long run.
