These are not intended to be spectacular landscape shots which is why I am posting them here. These are just to show some of the colour change that we are enjoying on our daily dog runs.
Of course, the dogs need a way to travel to the county forest and this is their personal transportation device...

These next shots are pretty typical of the hardwoods areas in the 6,000 acre forest...

I love all that colour! Fall is so pretty, but so short, especially if a big wind comes along!

You're absolutely right, Ann. It's raining today with more forecast for the rest of the week. High winds are also expected over the next couple of days. A lot of this could be gone by the weekend.
After that, we get the 'blech' November and have to wait for snow for things to look sweet again.

Harv - don't sell these shots short - I think that they are great. All three of them are nice exposures - nice and even. You have some lucky dogs as that looks like a great area to prowl around in for the four-legged friends.

Thanks, Jared.
Not only are the dogs lucky, so are we. This is a 6,000 acre county forest that is 10 minutes from home. When not hunting or training, this is where we always run the dogs. There are about 40 miles of cross country ski trails as well as hundreds of miles of fire roads throughout the area.
A lot of the area is mixed hardwoods but there is a lot of open pine forest as well. The dogs just love to run in here. In addition to sometimes seeing whitetail deer, we often encounter ruffed grouse. We had a nice point on a ruffie yesterday from my male. On one day alone, we encountered a wild turkey, a big whitetail doe and 4 grouse.
This is just one of the benefits of building our retirement home in the area. The other is that Lake Ontario is 5 minutes away. Ah, life is good.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with these! I love the variety of colors and the second shot has a look about it that makes me feel like I'm actually there....can't quite put my finger on it. You guys are right about the big winds and the rain.....if it rains and the winds pick up at the same time, you could miss everything in one day!
Those dogs (and you) are certainly lucky to have all of that area to run around in.
