Hi folks
Quick question...It has been suggested to me that using a remote switch and locking up the mirror for landscape shots will improve the quality and sharpness of shots - reduce camera shake, etc while on a tripod of course.
Wondering if you have any experience with these and if you have a strong recommendations for either one or would you say they are overrated practices for the benefit derived?
Thanks
Ashley

Up until I got the 30D I didn't have the lock up option, but I have used a remote and it does help. I don't think you need the lock up except for very long exposures, I've done a number at a half to a quarter of a second and never saw any camera shake due to the mirror.

I've used both and feel they're beneficial. As E.B. has said, it MLU probably helps more with longer exposures. I know some who use the super teles also use mirror lockup to avoid mirror slap.

It's my biggest beef against my D70, I can't get a really good long exposure because I don't have mirror lockup when taking photos. (At least I couldn't find it in the manual). I can't imagine why they didn't provide it. I've found that hanging a weight or pressing down on the camera during exposure helps. But mirror lockup would help more.

It also helps to set the self timer.
