V8 Supercar - A day at Oran Park, Sydney, Australia.

These were taken in August 2006 at Oran Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=-34.007171,150.735211&ie=UTF8&om=1&t=k&ll=-34.007171,150.735211&spn=0.012113,0.027122). Since then we have lost one of the greatest Australian motoring racing driver Peter Brock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Brock) in a rally on 8th September, 2006.

We have also lost Mark Porter in the development series during the annual Bathurst 1000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathurst_1000) race at the Mount Panorama Circuit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Panorama_Circuit), from injuries suffered on 6th October, 2006.

This is the category Peter Brock raced in throughout his career, a Ford vs. Holden affair. Peter was a nine times winner of the Bathurst 1000 race, a feat which earned him the The King of the Mountain title. The Peter Brock Trophy, a perpectual trophy inaugurated at the 2006 race, will be awarded to winners of the annual Bathust race. The inaugural winner of the trophy is Craig Lowndes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Lowndes) (and co-driver Jamie Whincup), a protégé of Peter, who is featured below in the 888 car.

So here is a little tribute to Peter, and Mark. RIP.

Jonathan - let me be the first to say that these are wonderful shots! I am a big motorsports fan and love anything to do with that type of event. I have to say that you've done a great job stopping the action in some of these, but I'm drawn more to the "behind the scenes" shots that you have posted. "Flatus Automation" and "Confused" are examples of very nice photography to me......thanks for posting these and for the great background information as well.

I'm not a racing fan so it probably is no surprise I actually like the first shot best! :) I think it's neat how the lens flare is right on the smoke trail.
