This about 10 minutes of total exposure time. My goal is to get about one hour on this galaxy. I'm working on processing one now that is 24 minutes. This is one big honkin' galaxy. This scope(90mm APO refrator-f/4.5) has a FL of 407mm and it's just about 3/4 frame. From dark skies it's visinle to the unaided eye. With binoculars you can see it very well, of course it won't look like this as our eyes are incapable of detecting faint and subtle details that the camera can gather with long exposure.

This is REAL sweet!! i can see why it is so addicting. Learned some real neat things today. Defineatly lost on the telescope aspect. Probably a good thing as it seems expensive

ARGGGH! This is beautiful. OK, OK, give us lessons, links, etc. I'm also not going to even consider buying a telescope of any sort, shape, or fashion. (where's my credit card?)

I would really enjoy this as well. Guess I could tag along some night with prentice:D
You wouldn't have any shots of a typical set-up would you?
Rumour has it you have some pretty slick noise reduction actions as well? Is this more long exposure noise or will it work as a general action for other photo's? Of course secrets can be secrets if one doesent want to devulge

Wonferful shot Steve.....I am in the process of looking into telescopes as my son is VERY much into astronomy. I would eventually like to gain the equipment as well that will allow me to connect my DLSR to the telescope. I think that this is something that my son and I could do together over the next 1o years as he grows up.
I very much look forward to seeing more of your work and sharing with my boy. I think that we are lucky to have you here in our forum.

This is one area of photography that I'm resisting. I've got the telescope, just not the camera adapter. Then again, I'd need the tracking device, the GOTO finder thingy, yada, yada.
But it's hard to resist the temptation when you see fantastic shots like this!

Thanks all. If anyone needs help with getting started imaging the night sky, just ask and I'll be happy to help.
