Hi everyone,

With the impending arrival of my EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS, I am trying to figure out the best way to transport this thing.

I know it will fit into my Lowepro Mini Trekker, but I am trying to find a good solution for carrying it separately as well. I assume that the supplied hard case, while very good protection, will be relegated to storage and transport duties (on long car trips), and maybe not even that - it just does not look too practical.

I already have some Lowepro lens cases for my other lenses, so a lens case might work well. I'm thinking of buying one large enough so that it could store and transport the 300mm f/2.8 with camera attached. But... I'm open to other ideas, so... what do YOU use to transport your 300mm f/2.8 or similar lenses??? (You don't have to shoot Canon to answer this one, BTW :D).

I keep mine attached to my 5D in a Tamrac Velocity 9 sling bag, the smallest pack I could find that fits it and all my other stuff.
I believe the Lowepro size 6 lens case fits it as well.

Thanks for that, Rick. I will check those two out.

Here's one that will work with the body attached as well as the lens hood in the shooting position...

I also use an older Tamrac magnum with some of the dividers removed but the lens hood has to be in the storage position to fit.

So you have the Lowepro 600, Harv, as well as the Tamrac???

LowePro 600 AW. Plus 2 ten pound dumb bells to exercise and build up the biceps muscle to inhibit the beginning of RCT (rotator cuff tear). It's called repetitive injury from lifting.:biggrin:

All joking aside, the 600 AW is a good start but there are others.

Please pay this consultation invoice upon receipt.

I'm thinking of buying a second 300/2.8 L and just using the two of them as weights for training, Mao. :D

roflmao;

This from another forum where I asked the same question (i.e. "How do I transport this thing?"):

"hold it tightly in your arms against your chest....in sort of a constant hugging pose. ok, that would be ridiculous, but I know if I got my hands on the 300 2.8 I would never let go"

Cracked me up... :)

Of course you cold always get one of those Pelican hard cases and carry a couple of bodies and lenses together. Something like the 1550. :cheer:

If I got one of those, Cheryl, then it would be the 1514 (it's the 1510 but with padded dividers). One reason: airline carry-on size!
