Anyone play with the 17-55mm, whats your thoughts on this particular lens?
Was thinking of selling my 17-40mm and 24-105IS and purchasing the 17-55mm and 70-200mm f2.8 to replace these two lenses..........

17-55/f2.8 is an EF-S lens and won't work with the 1DM2n

Well that was futile thinking wasnt it  :o

I was late getting to this thread but was also going to tell you it wouldn't fit your 1D camera. There is another issue with this lens. I have read a great many complaints on DPR from people who bought it. It's apparently a dust vaccuum. Everyone complained about huge amounts of dust building up inside this lens.

Anyone thinking of buying one should do some serious research on these complaints.

YES, direct approach works best, just ask my wife :D :D

well maybe I can get away with 24-70mm f2.8 and the 70-200mm  Just not sure if 24 is wide enough, then again can always pano :D

Why not the 17-40L and the 70-200L? It's only a 30mm gap, and you could always fill it with the small, light, 50mm f/1.4!

Although I love my 24-70L, one of the sharpest zooms I own!

(Hey Kevin, this won't confuse him, will it? ;) :D)

Sorry Keith, just taking the you know what... :)

Keith, I have the 17-40 f/4L and love it. It's a great lens and surely worth a look.

Thanks Harv, already have it in my arsenol, pretty happy with it. I have the 24-105mm as well and was thinking of ditching one of them and replacing with a different lens. Still working and educating my way through the Canon lens line up. I know the Nikon stuff inside and out, but still learning curve on the C camp

keith I am eventually planning on the 24-70 for my walkaround...but our needs are different. Of course my plans change all the time

In case you weren't aware, the 24mm on the 24-70 is the same as the 24mm on your 24-105. Didn't want to state the obvious, but..... ;)

In hindsight, we should've done comparison shots with your 24-105 against my 24-70. In looking at my scenics from my trip, I'm just simply amazed at the performance of this lens. It produces precisely the look I was hoping for.

Keith, you could always hang onto the 17-40 and pick up a 24-70 along with the 70-200. There are quite a few of both on FM right now. You own a bank, right?
