I processed a couple more picks from the Air and Water show from earlier this year and thought I'd share them. Let me know what you think, this was the first air show I have shot.
What do you think of this crop? I only cropped from the left. Is this too tight?

This one is about 95% of full frame.

In both shots the angle of the subject makes for dynamic images. Very sharp and lots of detail. Exposures look spot on.
I like them both but #1 would be my fav as I like to see formations and prefer the sky in that shot. If you have more room to the left, I'd give it a try. I always like to see a little more space to the front of the subject than to the back. I think it might improve the photo a little. Just my opinion.

My uncle is an airshow pilot, so I have seen a lot of airshow photographs - that first one is quite good to me....something that would be published in one of the many air show mags.

Nick:
I like both of these very much. I, too, would prefer a little more sky to the left on the first one....but that is IMHO....I'm not known for my ability to crop photos correctly, I only like a little more sky as I like to see a bit more of where they are going.

a great set, #1 stands out, but luv the composition in #2, interesting angle and great job if 95% full frame :)

Harv is anything but the man. :silly:
I have looked again and reassesssed my first impression. (I hope I am allowed to do that) If the crop were changed at all, I think it would need additional space on top as well as on the left, due to the flight angle. If no space were available above, the present crop would work better IMHO.

I cropped it slightly because the bottom left corner had just a small bit of land in it. I like the comp also. I just think anything in flight looks much better flying from one corner of a frame to the opposite corner, when there is no anchoring point, such as land or a stationary object.

As for the first pic. I agree that things need room to fly into but with such a tight crop around the rest of the shot I 'm not sure if it needs the extra space. Plus I only cropped the left side so I would have to add canvas to the top. Maybe I'll give that a try. Thanks for the input everyone.

Nice shots Harvey. The 1st , being so tight, works fine for me. I appreciate seeing these planes in tight formation up close, and centering them in this way has appeal. Leaving more forward space would also make for a greater sense of flight and motion.

Oh sure Robert, give Harv all the credit. He wasn't even there  .
Thanks for looking.
