XP Pro/Vista 64 bit and Nikon Capture/NX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have completed a configuration for a new PC (Xeon) and the OS that I believe will serve me best at this time is XP64. Some of the software programs I use benefit considerably from 64 bit. There are driver issues with Vista 64 that concern memory so for now, I'll run XP.
I've read some discussion about a possible work-around using NCapture on a 64 bit system, with DEP Data Execution Prevention and I'm wondering if that is a viable route to try. My understanding is that Nikon Capture and NX won't load into a 64 bit system. However, it seems there is a way to utilize Nikon software on a 64 bit OS. I presume that PS CS3 and 64 bit work well together.

"Unfortunately, it is impossible to switch off DEP in Windows XP 64-bit edition, so I had to switch off it separtely for any Nikon's exe file (Nikon Capture and /Common files/Nikon folders) Additionally it is necessary to check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP" in the file properties window (for ALL Nikon exe files again). Now Nikon Capture and Nikon View work!"
There is an article "Trouble Shooting Nikon Capture Problems" on the Earthbound Light website that also refers to DEP. http://www.earthboundlight.com/photo...-problems.html
The other option I'm considering is to run a dual-boot system, but I've just started to look into that and so I'm unsure of what is involved.

There is also the Microsoft WOW64 option. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896456
There is also "Compatability Mode" which I need to find out about.
If there are other consideration/options I would appreciate your input/thoughts/experiences.
