Just wondering if anyone uses Zenfolio for storing photo's on the web. Have been using Flickr which was good. Only trouble I have is when I copy the properties to paste into Pixel Shooter I only get the address details appearing & not the shot. Anyone able to help?

Rob,
I am not too sure how Flickr works, but am not a big fan of the Flickr layout. That could just be me, though, since others love it. rolleyes; Zenfolio, well, that I can tell you about! :D I have used Zenfolio for well over a year, and couldn't be happier. See my website: www.rudiphoto.net. I have PM'd you some info, but feel free to ask if you have any other questions. :)

I use Zenfolio for my nature gallery website and like it very much. It's customizable and easy to upload and organize. They keep adding new features as well.

I just signed up for Zenfolio a day or so ago. Haven't got everything set up, but I really like what I've seen so far. And as you see, Kevin and Rudi use it.
I've not been totally unhappy with smugmug, but I think zenfolio will meet my needs/wants better.

Here's a discussion about Zenfolio and Smugmug (which I use and highly recommend) it should cover everything you ever wanted to know.

OK, Rob, that URL is no good to you - your zenfolio is at robbie.zenfolio.com (they insert your username as a sub-domain). Once you open that, you can click on any thumbnail, then right-click on the photo once it opens, and select whichever size you want to link to (you have to be logged in, otherwise you will just get a link to the page with the photo, not the JPEG itself).
Hope this makes sense, let me know if you need me to reword this... :)

Rob,
I would like to ask a question about Zenfolio in your thread if you don't mind. Maybe it's something you will want to know also?
The one thing I don't like about smugmug is the user has to click more than once to see my uploaded original size. If I upload the pics at say 900 pixels on the longest side the user has to click more than once to see that size or you have to do a bunch of coding to make it work which I don't want to do. Does Zenfolio work the same way or can a visitor see your intended size with one click?
Rob, if you want this question moved just say the word and I will move it.

Andy,
Zenfolio automatically resizes the images, based on the screen resolution that displays them. What that means, is that is you're viewing them on a small screen, you will be served the smaller image with an option to click on it to display the original image. If you have enabled display of original images, and your screen resolution is high enough, Zenfolio will automatically display the original image (But only as long as your screen resolution is high enough! Try it - open up any of my images on your screen, then resize the browser window to a smaller size, and you will automatically be shown as smaller-sized image, one that will fit inside your current browser window).
Hope this makes sense... :)

I was afraid of that, pretty much just like smugmug. No big deal, was just curious.
By the way Rudi I was blown away by the comet photos! Some of the best I have seen of that event. I had cheated and looked at your site earlier today.

Rob,
I'm still not getting an image, and I don't know what image you're trying to link to. The following is a sample image from your Zenfolio gallery, hope this helps:

Hmmm... interesting! Looks like you've got direct-linking disabled somehow! Let me look at it, and get back to you...
This is what my Zenfolio "Access Control" is set to - see if you have something set very differently:

Ricky, I've sent you a PM with some info. If you have any other questions, just ask. Give their 14-day trial a go, it costs you nothing. Once you try Zenfolio, I think you'll like it! :)

I've been following this thread very carefully cause I'm anxious to find a good place for my shots. I had everything in SmugMug for 1+ years, but I never was very pleased with it. I always thought that the effort needed to create new folders and sub folders was too confusing. But the real kicker was when I tried to open access to a friend, I made a mistake in trying to figure out the rules for changing codes and permissions, and left my entire site open to the general public for months. I only found it out accidentally.. When I e-mailed for help, he just said ''Yup, you screwed up" So I ordered a CD copy of everything, and got out of Dodge..
E.B. thanks for the reference to that other forum, it was very informative.
Since I see a lot of incouragement to try Zenfolio, I plan to go in that direction.. Anyone want to give me their reference code??

John,
Sent you a PM with some more info. Feel free to ask any questions you might have.
Cheers,
Rudi
P.S. Don't be shy to use their free 14-day trial. Make sure you give Zenfolio a good test drive, you can always use a discount code when you decide to sign up. That's how the test drive usually ends up! :)

Just an update from my perspective. Have been slowly playing with the program for a week now after downloading the full version. Finding it a little different from Flickr but am getting used to it & actually finding it better to use. Groups seem to be easier to setup & I like the layout of the folio & the way the personal details are updated. A little less cumbersom to navigate through than Flickr

When I indicated an interest in ZenFolio, I received 5 PM's with some excellect and much appreciated advise. So I immediately jumped in and bought the 'unlimited' version.. I had zero difficulty uploading 200+ pics (over 150MB) in a short time. Then I learned easily how to arrange and label things; move pics up/down left/right and delete as needed. I then downloaded a few back to my computer to do some blending work using PFactory.. It has truly been a breeze to handle.
So I want to thank everyone for their great advice, and invite all to see what my interests are: http://johngregory.zenfolio.com
And if anyone else wants to jump in as I have, this code will get you an immediate $5 discount: KST-6NP-Y8C
Best regards..John Gregory

Hey John, You've done extremely well. Just had a look at your folio. Some beautiful shots there. Particularly like the Pano's. What program do you use to process these?

Hello Rob, Thanks for the feedback.. I've been using Panorama Factory for the last 3 years, and with great success. I bought into it when I had a PC. Then when the Dell died, I contacted the PF owner (John Straight) and asked him if he had a version for the Mac. He was just starting a new Mac version, and I managed to get on his beta testing team.. It is almost ready for open sales. The PC version is fully operational.. I am extremely satisfied with this software.. Two years ago I took 27 shots of the Victoria harbor covering about 260 degrees with my film camera (Spotmatic) then scanned the prints and put them thru PF to get ONE image of the harbor.. The resulting image is so clear that I can zoom way into a section of the pic and read small signs on the buildings. I used the same process for one of the Deep Cove shots that you may have seen.
The other thing that I did was to put my camera on the short side to get a higher overall image. Then blend the shots that way. I have done a lot of blending work, so I could talk about this for hours..
Regards, John Gregory

Sounds great. I have been doing a bit of Pano work (Not too much) but want to get further into it. Have a Silvestri Pano film camera which takes 11cm negs on 120 film. Shots with this to date have been great. Also looking ot do some with the 1DsMK2 so seeing your shots has given me new intent. Look forward to getting the opportunity now. Regards. Rob

Rob,
Don't forget that CS3 does a great job of panoramas, all by itself. You might not need another program...
Case in point - this one is about as difficult a job as pano software is bound to get (original images below the large pano stitch):

Rob, Your Silvestri looks like a great piece of gear. I almost bought a Haselbland Pano, but jumped into digital. Did you do the Jindi shot (P12) with the Silvestri? If your Canon will do pano work built in that saves a few steps. How many images can you blend this way? Rudi did 5 shots very nicely, but can you do 27 shots like I did on the Victoria Harbor piece using PF? Rudi, is that you in the foreground of the 4th shot?
Regards, John

After reading all the positive comments about Zenfolio, here and elsewhere, I decided to give the 14 day trial a shot...after 8 days I've bought a full membership, the layout is quite nice, and it's really easy to use, especially for a beginner!
John, I used your referral code, thank you!
