You have to pick up one of these cameras!! Here are some shots of my little photography students hard at work, they always wanted to use my camera (and of course I let them) but then their grandmother picked up two of these and now they can't put them down.. I can't praise this camera enough.. I am really impressed with it, its the Fisher Price Kid Tough Digital Camera. Here are some shots of them in action:
My middle child, taking a photo of my taking a photo of him.. (Notice that even though its binocular vision.... he still chooses to shoot like Dad! LOL)

and of course another learned behavior from their father.. CHIMPING!!! LOL
Here is my oldest hard at chimping:

and both of them chimping..

These were $65 each.. they hold about 70 images without a card and they have a SD slot, they take 4 AA batteries and I have not had to change them yet (almost 2 months now) But what I really like about this is now I can take them out with me when I go to shoot wildlife without worrying about them getting bored or breaking my back up camera!! LOL

Who makes them and what are they called?

Looks like a great idea!

Charles,

Great post! I am in the process of getting my 4 year old son into photography and he is really taking to it. He mostly uses my wifes Canon Powershot S30, but this looks like a great idea for a Christmas present for him! I did not know that they made these.

What retailer did you pick them up at? Wonderful idea and I am very glad that you took the time to post this thread. Great shots of the kids too by the way - "chimping away"..........

To Ludrog: Its the fisher Price "Kid Tough" digital camera.

To Jared:
Thanks and I think this would be perfect for your 4 year old! They sell them at Toys R Us, that is their main distributor I think, I heard about these 6 months ago, but then they finally put them out and a couple months ago my boys "took" their grandma to Toys R Us so she could get it for them! LOL They photos come out pretty nice too, especially when they nail the focus! I will try posting some of their shots on here when I get a chance.

and I appreciate the nice comments on my photos.. Thanks.. I consider these snapshots but I personally like the shot of them both chimping at the same time, it cracks me up everytime I see it! LOL

Charles - please do, when you get a chance, post some of the shots taken by the kids. I would love to see them. I plan on posting some of my sons work here in this forum as well soon. He is really taking to the hobby and I think it is a great pastime for he and I to share as he grows up.

I think that this little FP camera can help.......I will be tracking one down soon.

Charles:

Thank you so much for posting this! I hadn't heard of this little camera, what a fantastic idea. My kids are the same way...wanting to use my camera, etc...I had often toyed with the idea of giving them the old P & S cams but somehow I can't seem to let go of my CP990 and Canon G2. I did buy a little CP2200 for them but kids just can't seem to share and I'm not about to buy one for each of them. This sounds like the perfect solution.

I, too, would love to see some of the photos your children have taken with this camera.
