What was your first digital camera??? This was mine... the Kodak DC200 Plus:

http://ct.pbase.com/o4/27/595027/1/63271817.Z7A9pW64.IMG0397.jpg

I never bought this as a "serious" camera. This was a bit of a novelty, and I only intended to use it for snapshots (which I did). I used my film cameras for any serious work, but the seed was planted. About a year or so later I bought my first "serious" digital, the Nikon Coolpix 990, which I did use for paying work occasionally. After that I bought the ground-breaker - the EOS D30! That was it! That was the camera that made me give up film altogether eventually! That did not happen until I owned the 10D, but the writing was on the wall from that time.

It was a lucky coincidence that I was already using EOS film cameras at the time, so there was no need for an expensive lens buying frenzy. It happened anyway, since digital showed me the shortcomings of my lenses at 100% magnification in Photoshop real quick! And I stopped using UV filters for lens protection, since I also noticed some image quality degradation that I just did not notice with film (I never looked at film that closely, I don't think anyone did!).

BTW, the Kodak exhibited some pretty horrendous image compression and the shutter lag was glacial compared to even the worst of today's point-and-shoots. But it DID have one megapixel of resolution! Some of my best memories were captured using this camera! :)

Yep. Digital re-ignited a passion for photography for me, one that was long dormant. At the time of my first digital purchase, photography was just a job to me, one that I enjoyed, but I tended not to do any photography FOR MYSELF! While the Kodak DC200 Plus did not change that much, the Nikon Coolpix 990 certainly did!

If you count my mobile phone handsets, I am now on my 10th digital camera !!! Let's see:

1. Kodak DC200 Plus (1MP)
2. Nikon Coolpix 990 (3MP)
3. Canon EOS D30 (3MP)
4. Canon Digital IXUS (2MP)
5. Canon EOS 10D (6MP)
6. Nokia 6225 camera phone (0.3MP)
7. Canon A85 (4MP)
8. Canon EOS 5D (12MP)
9. Nokia N70 camera phone (2MP)
10. Fuji Finepix F30 (6MP)

Hmmmm... even without the phone handsets, we're talking EIGHT cameras here!

HP C200 - 1 MP fixed focal length camera. Nasty little beast - but it got me hooked on digital photography so I have a soft spot for it.

Nikon Coolpix990 - cost me $2,000Cdn out the door - I handled it like a newborn baby!! *LOL* I still have it, still use it sometimes, and feels like an ol' friend in my hands.
One of my first pics with it

I graduated to the Nikon 5700 and wasn't as WOW'd as I was with the 990. Graduated to DSLR system with a Fuji S3Pro and haven't looked back.

My first camera was the 4MP Olympus 750UZ with 10x Optical zoom. it did a good job except for the horendous CA. Here is one of the first bird pictures I ever took with this camera.

Those are the only Eagle shots I have ever gotten. These shots are what got me looking at a better camera and my research led me to the 20D that I have today.

You came into the game a bit late then, huh? :)

1. Canon G5

Wow. Both good choices! You held out for a while, too. My dad still has the G3, we actually bought it in preference to the G5 - he got a really good deal on it, didn't mind the fewer pixels (and cleaner pictures), since he was always intending to get a good DSLR. Hey, his *first* DSLR was the 5D!

Yep. The Kodak was a fixed focal length, fixed focus little beast with an amazingly bad JPEG compression and unbelievably long shutter delay. The battery life was measured in seconds. :p

I can't believe you still have (and USE) the 990! I was terribly frustrated with it after buying the D30, and since I was offered really good money, I sold it. :) The 5700 was a disappointment all around, I think. A friend of mine had one for a while, and he couldn't wait to get rid of it and buy something else (this turned out to be the D60).

BTW, I paid $2150 AUD for the 990 and the AC power adaptor. I can buy a 30D for less than that these days...

My first camera was the 4MP Olympus 750UZ with 10x Optical zoom.

Nice camera! I know that I seriously thought about one when they came out. Can't believe how expensive they were, when I look back now. :)

I remember those! How high-tech they looked when they first came out. It's hard to believe it's only a few years ago that we thought those things were high tech! :)

It sure was expensive. I think I paid around $900 for it plus a 512MB xD card. It was one of the first 10x Optical zooms though, that is why I bought it. I detest Digital Zoom. It is such a marketing ploy.

My first real digital camera was a Canon G1, bought brand new shortly after they came out for $899USD! I used that from 2001 until I bought my first dSLR, a Nikon D2X in 2005. I sold that in March of this year and (temporarily) bought a 30D. Long(er) term plans now dictate I wait to get a 5D and a 1Dm2(n) for birding.

My wife has a 3mp Nikon CPsomething or other that she uses for real estate. My daughter has a 3mp Fuji P&S. We all have camera phones now too, with my daughter having the best, a Razor.
