Nikon has just released the ViewNX software, replacement for the Nikon View and PictureProject software. Only just played with it briefly, cleaner and simpler interface, and now with XMP support. Nikon Transfer is now a separate application.

You are probably right Eric, as I don't actually use PictureProject as it cannot co-exist with Nikon View, and I don't like the image transfer functions. I like the flexibility of renaming filename when using Nikon Transfer which is part of Nikon View. Having said that, the new Nikon Transfer that was released along with ViewNX has limited flexibility in the renaming department... The good news is that ViewNX and the new Nikon Transfer can be installed alongside Nikon View.

There is an "export" tool to convert from PictureProject to ViewNX, which prompted me to think that it is a replacement. Apparent this is a one-way conversion...

The export tool is available here: http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=14371

I tried out Picture Project once and just could not stand the interface or how the program worked.. It was more difficult to delete a image off the drive than to remove it from the database of images in picture project.

Have been using Nikonview for quite a while, but lately tried out Photo Mechanic for sorting and editing.. It works really fast and applies a bit of sharpening to the images to get a idea of how they will look..
Have to give the new Nikonview NX a look at this week.. I just installed it and it actually works on my 64bit Vista system so that is a plus...

At least ViewNX is free for download like the old Nikon view...
