Most of the local Pixel-shooters will recognize this flower, I would think, and where it was taken- 2nd Marsh. I'm really partial to them, I guess because where they are most abundant is a grove of very big old trees that provide a canopy to shade me from the sun and I'm usually ill prepared ( water wise ) for my impromtu camera outings and by the time I reach this spot the flowers and shade seem like a oasis and everthing is hushed except for the sound of the bees and the occasional bird cry. In my mind, because of the surroundings, I equate them with coolness and solitude, in the middle of a busy area and life. So if anyone knows the name of these, I'd appreciate it :) They remind me of an Orchid, in the way their shaped, but much smaller! That's my story about these pretty things! Hope you enjoy them, the last one is one of my wife's favs and was an exercise for me in selective DOF and color, at least I got what I was shooting for :) and is from the same place, but different part of the marsh.

Very nice, Jerry. I'm always way too busy looking for things with feathers to see the flowers. Maybe it's time I switched gears and slowed down to see things like this.

:) I know what you mean, but I do find this very enjoyable and it gives me a chance to really think about BG, DOF, lighting angle and comp. Things we really don't have any control of, or choice, with birding capture, most of the time. Thanks for the lookin in and the comment Harv.

Nice shots Jerry! I quite like the last shot best! I wonder if that whole thing buds out with the flowers.

Nice captures, Jerry. Believe the first few images are called Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera). But then again I could be wrong.

Thanks much Sally, both for the kind words and taking the time to have a look at IDing them. One thing I don't have is a flower book, still struggling with birds ;(

Merci Gene, sounds good, I really don't have a clue, maybe I'll take a cutting to a flourist an see, as I have no other way, till then it's a Himalayan Balsam to me :) Thanks again
