Hi Everybody. I have just returned from the town of Huntsville. One of the reasons for going was to experience the fall colours in the Muskokas. The locals tell me that they will peak in another few days and the following weekend should see the Haliburton Highlands in all it's splendour and glory.
Saturday morning started with a little rain and overcast but as the morning progressed, the cloud cover broke and the sun shone bright. Thankfully not all the clouds disappeared giving landscape shots an interesting sky. I strongly suggest to anyone wanting to photograph this to do it now or at the latest, this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Town of Huntsville.

Fantastic spots to build houses. This is taken from Lions Lookout located behind the arena in the middle of town.

I hope some of you make it to the Muskokas in the next few days. It's worth the trip. Thanks for looking in.

Beautiful scenics Joe, was wondering where you disappeared to. Hard to believe that the turn is so far along. Last shot is my favourite.

Had to bring the trailer back Bobby. Now how did I know that the last would be your favourite. They're growing up fast. Saw Paul Mooney today, said to say hello.

Thanks a lot Rob. Luckily it's only a two hour drive from home. It's always fantastic to see the kids while there.

Hi Ashley. If you are going be careful driving through Algonquin. Next weekend is the time for all the tour buses to stop along highway #60. If you're in the park try the Opeongo Road. No buses there and lots of opportunities.

Yes Ma'am. I'll do the bird thing real soon. Had to try the 40D on some fall foliage though. Had a terrific time with the family while there. Tomorrow it's all business. Birds only.

Love the autumn colours, Joe.

Here in and around Montreal, we're still real early -- the occassional tree changing, while the majority still hanging on to the greens. Has been very dry this past week or so, so am not expecting real strong coloyrs. (Hope I'm wrong.)

Did you need to change anything in the way you shoot with the 40D compared to your 30D?

Hi Gene. Thanks a lot for the comments. The fundamental settings for the 40D are the same as the 30D yet it responds differently to these settings. Since all of us are in the early stages with this camera, not too many of us are quite sure yet how to fine tune it. That will come. It's a great camera though and holds a lot of promise. BIFs are a lot easier with this one than the 30D.

Joe, the autumn colours are wonderful. Huntsville is a very pretty town!

The hill in sunshine is spectacular as is the view from your daughters door.

I spent all my summers and early fall growing up in the Muskokas, we had a cottage near Gravenhurst so I feel those colours.

I am heading to Algonquin on Friday and am excited about it! Going to be heading down Opeongo Rd.

Good for you Sally. Before you take the Opeongo Rd. there is also a gravel road running south off #60 that takes you to Rock Lake. The drive is about 5km. As you head south you will see rock cliffs with ponds in front that should make sensational pictures. If you have time give it a try. Just before the Rock Lake campground there is also a small river. Another good spot. Lots of moose on that road as well. Hope you run into one. Well.. not literally. :nah:

Thanks a lot Ann. That's from your old stomping grounds when you were a kid...last year. Anything still look familiar?

Beautiful shots Joe, of a very familiar area. I have been to the lookout on several occasions and have the same houses in them. :-) But like Bobby, I favor the last one too. It's nice to see people having fun, and capturing family moments like this are precious.

Sadly, on another note, famed Canadian artist Ken Danby collapsed and died while canoeing in Algonquin Park yesterday, a little to the east of this location, as he gathered material for new paintings. He was 67 years old. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Thanks a lot Blayne. I've always been a fan of Ken Danby. Little trivia: His most famous painting "In the crease" was of a goalie that played for Wayne Gretzski's Dad, in Brantford. Not Ken Dryden as most thought. Ken Danby was very close to Canoe Lake where another famous Canadian artist died while paddling a canoe; Tom Thompson. 67 is just too young to go. We'll miss him.

Very nice set, Joe. It's the last image that garners my attention. Well done.

Thanks a lot Harv. The last one seems to be a lot of peoples' favourite as well, including my family.
