View Full Version : A Day On The Road With My Buddy Mao

Now landscapes are not 'my thing' but I wanted to do something different so my good buddy Mao and I hit the road today and wandered around looking for 'stuff' to shoot. I had to run my dogs first so we didn't get away until later in the morning and had to settle for mid-day sun. As I said, landscapes are not 'my thing' but you can't drive around Ontario this time of year and not give them a shot. Critiques are always welcome.

Yes I have a suggestion Harv. Do more like that. You have five gorgeous landscape shots there. Fantastic time of the year, is it not? I also think you saved the best for last.

Harv,

I know a lot of photographers say you must shoot landscapes either early or late but I completely disagree with that. This set of images illustrate why midday scenics/landscapes do indeed work. I think they are great!

Yippee....now I don't have to process my images :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

Had a great day and a wonderful lunch :biggrin: That, in itself was a treat for sore eyes.

Not to mention my prince and princess whom I absolutely adore.

Nice work sensei, maybe we'll find some more tomorrow.

Well I really like these!!! I love #4, the composition with the old fence and the coloured trees! colourful and sharp! How I miss seeing red colours in the fall, we don't get the red colours in the big trees you get.

Nothing like a little stop and go with Mao to find some great pictures, Harv.
I think I'd prefer a straighter horizon in #1.

Good luck tomorrow.
Hope you find more!
Oh, yes, the poison oak is turning red here.

I had a great day as well, buddy. Yes, you still have to process yours so get to work. See you later.

Thanks a lot, Ann. I think I remember you saying the same thing last year at this time. You will just have to make a trip east in the fall and bring your gear.

Thanks for looking in, Virginia. Yep, a stop and go with Mao is always fun, even if we don't get pics. :biggrin:

I was wondering if anyone would comment on the 'horizon' in #1. Actually, that is not the horizon. The camera was level. I was standing on the side of a hill which slopes up to the right and both the fence and the land follow that slope. If you look at the fence post, you can see it's level.

Great shot. You've gotta love those colors. My wife and I were just trying to decide the date for a trip to do "leaf peeping".

Thanks a lot, Peter. Your name came up over lunch today with Bob and Mao. We haven't seen you lately and were hoping all was okay with you.

Thanks, Mickey. Yep, only once a year and for a very short time. Get out there and enjoy.

Harv, horizon or not, #1 gives me the tipsies.
:wacko::wacko::wacko:
I took the liberty of straightening it out.
Hope you don't mind.

Thanks, Virginia. I certainly wouldn't want to see you tipsy in public. :wacko: I asked for suggestions and can see your view. Appreciate your input.

Great stuff, keep shooting this stuff, you have a great eye for composition. Ontario has to be one of the most beautiful places in the fall, I miss those big huge maples. Fantastic stuff Harv, great job!

Thanks a lot, Ellen. I've always enjoyed the old split rail fences.

Great series, really love the fences/fence lines in the photos as well as the splendid colours!

Thanks a lot, Sally. Most of these were taken around Havelock. We found the colours to be kind of hit and miss, with some areas not yet having peaked and others still green.

Thanks very much for the kind words, Keith. You are far too generous with your praise but I appreciate it.

Looks like you shifted gears nicely to scenics Harv. Great shots all, too bad all the colours disappeared in a day, Lol.

Your fine photography may just be the inspiration I need to unglue the 400mm and give my other lenses a go at this, cause I sure like what I see Harv (+: I can't get that last Osprey nesting site, with the sheep farm and the view of Rice between the hills, out of my mind. It would be such a great sunset capture and the farm is like something out of a movie and would look too much with sweet light pouring over it. Very well done Harv.

That first shot is my favourite, Harv.

Jerry, I apologize for missing this comment when it was first posted. Many thanks. I've been preoccupied with dog training and breeding my dogs these last several weeks and have only looked in briefly from time to time.

Gene, you are always way too kind. Thanks a lot, my friend.

That obvious, huh? :biglaugh: Thanks, Peter. The shot of the evergreens was taken with my 70-200 and all the others with my 24-105. I really do own lenses shorter than 500mm. :biggrin:
