The only reason it's called Blue Jay Collage is to give it some identifying name.
The following is a one page tutorial that hopefully will do the trick. Give it a try and if you discover a mistake or an added step to follow, let me know and I'll make the correction(s) and re-post the tutorial. Have fun with it.

Blue Jay Collage

• (1) Choose series of shots to be used.
• (2) Select one that will become your ‘base’ photograph. All other subjects will be pasted into this one.
• (3) DO NOT CHANGE IMAGE SIZE UNTIL FINAL IMAGE IS COMPLETE.
• (4) Start with ‘base’ photo.
• (5) From tool bar choose Magic Wand > Click magic Wand on sky > If any stray pixels > shift key and hold down>apply Magic Wand to strays until all pixels are gone and sky is clear. Marching ants should only be around subject and perimeter of sky.
• (6) Choose ‘select’ > inverse. Only subject will have marching ants.
• (7) Now is the time to do normal PP on this bird. We will get to the sky later. Choose 'select' > 'deselect'.
• (8) Choose next subject bird and lay it over top of the 'base' bird photo on your screen.
• (9) Repeat (5), (6), and (7) but in (7) stop after "....do normal PP on this bird". When that is done go to (10).
• (10) Choose ‘edit’ > copy.
• (11) Place ‘base’ photo on screen.
• (12) Choose ‘edit’ > paste. Bird will appear on ‘base’ photo.
• (13) Go to tool bar and choose ‘Move Tool (V)’ Place on new subject and move it around until you find the place you like.
• For more subjects repeat from (5) through (13).
• (14) Choose ‘Layer’ > ‘Flatten’ image.
• Here is where we come back to the sky.
• (15) Place ‘Magic Wand’ on sky and do normal PP on sky. Soften it a bit to eliminate noise.
• (16) Choose ‘select’ >’deselect’. Now is the time to look for ‘halos’ around your subjects from over sharpening. If there is then you have some clean up to do.

These are basic steps in doing a collage like the one I posted of the Jays. For more elaborate work may I suggest you ask Virginia or Diane or a few others on Pixel. They are the masters of collage. If you really want to do this, I suggest you print this page and check off each step as you do it. Most mistakes are made by missing a step.
Have fun and show us what you produce.
