Does anyone use a Ring flash for Macros shots? Anyone have any shots with them?

Nice shot Chad,
I have a Canon ring flash which I find works well. Seem to get more even lighting than any other flash I use for macro.

I didn't use a Ring Flash in that photo just an internal flash.
Thanks for the comments.

As for the Ring Flash. I was just asking how others like them. I've been told that they do good for flash objects, but not the best for DOF, like shooting bugs/reptiles like I do.
Any insite?

Thanks,
Chad

Hi Chad,
I'm no ringflash expert but I had one for a bit. I think with a bit more time under my belt and some experimentation I probably would've liked it more. But I just didn't. I'm not big on flash anyway even though I realize it's necessary, especially for certain types of macro shooting.

Having said all that, I've been reconsidering and looking at Canon's macro twin light setup.

The ringlight is handy and I liked that you can set ratios with it to get dimensionality. I probably sold it too soon and should've given it a chance. Others here use flash very effectively...like Martin and Duncan.
